About Us

What is "Peer Support"?

We are the bereaved helping the bereaved learn how to live with grief. All of our staff and volunteers have personally experienced grief as a result of the death of a loved one. All of our staff and volunteers are trained Grief Facilitators with diverse personal experiences of loss. We do not provide clinical counselling or therapy. We do listen, share, educate

and support you as you learn how to live with and navigate your own personal grief journey of loss.

Supports We Offer:

Here at Bereaved Families of Ontario - York Region, we provide grief healing support groups and individual one-on-one supports.  We do not provide clinical counselling and instead utilize a 'peer support' model; creating safe space for individuals to express their grief with someone who has also experienced their own personal journey of loss after the death of a loved one.  We are here to listen, support and walk along side you while you navigate your very personal grief journey.

Fees/ Costs For Our Services:

All of our supports are FREE OF CHARGE with thanks to our Funders and to our Corporate and Private Sponsors.  As a registered non-profit charity organization, we offer tax receipts for all donations over $25.00.  We are so grateful for all monetary and 'in kind' donations.  We sincerely thank our supporters for helping us keep all grief healing supports fully accessible for everyone who works and lives in our beautiful York Region.

OUR VISION:

We aim to empower grieving individuals and families by providing inclusive mutual support programs, fostering hope and healing, and educating about grief and bereavement.

OUR MISSION:

We are the bereaved helping the bereaved learn to live with grief.

OUR CORE VALUES:

Integrity, Full Inclusion, Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, Mutual Respect, Accountability, Sincerity
